Semiconductors

Context

The Government published its National Semiconductor Strategy in May 2023. It sets out plans to build on the UK’s strengths in semiconductors in order to grow the sector, increase its resilience and protect the country’s security.

On 24 May 2023, the Foundation for Science and Technology hosted a meeting at the Royal Society to explore the strategy and what it means for UK industry, both for silicon and compound semiconductors. Government Minister Paul Scully MP, Dr Andy Sellars from the Compound Semiconductor Catapult, David Clark of Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd, and Dr Jalal Bagherli, the Co-Chair of the UK Semiconductor Advisory Panel, discussed how to ensure that the UK has a secure supply of the semiconductors it needs and the requirements for the UK semiconductor industry to thrive.
